Well, in general there is nothing specific about sidebars that requires specific AO-settings. So the question is; what widget did you add?
You could start by disabling JS (or CSS-)optimization and see if that fixes the problem. After that you'll have to dig some deeper to find exactly what to exclude (under CSS or JS) for all to work.
