Using Autoptimize on Google App engine

Hi,

we’re running WordPress on a Google App engine, hence, the filesystem is readonly. We store media on Google Cloud storage, for this we use a plugin.

Do you know if Autoptimize can be run under this circumstances? Do you know or have you heard about a way?
I understand that your base directory is always at least the “wp-content” directory.
Is it possible to use /tmp instead? (Still, I wouldn’t know if it could be served by nginx from there, but this may be another question.)

Best regards & thank you!

Hello!
Wanted to see if you could help me out here. When I run a page speed test with insights it is showing that lazy loading is not working for mobile. However, it is working for desktop. Was wondering if someone could take a look at this or if this has happened before.
Thanks

Increase amount of files aggregated together

Is it possible to increase the amount of CSS and JS files that are aggregated together?

Currently we are trying to lower the amount of page requests being made and I can’t seem to find an option. Is there perhaps some sort of adjustment that can be made from a filter (or in the code)?

Autoptimize completly breaks the layout of theme

Hi,

I had installed Async JavaScript and through its suggestions I installed Autoptimize. It improved my GTMatrix score after Defer(Jquery excluded), but when I minified CSS it broke my website completely.

All the images, layout and, fonts disappeared. I had to restore my website completely and then I tried the plugin for the second time and the result was the same.

Can you please suggest me, what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks!

Font not preloading

Hi,

I’m trying to preload a font like “/fonts/abc.woff2” in Autoptimize.

However, Google tells me that it’s not preloaded and it seems to be because there’s a parameter afterward, i.e. “/fonts/abc.woff2?leryx9”

I tried clearing all my caches (Autoptimize, site and CDN) but it’s still there.

Do you know if that’s something I can fix with Autoptimize or should I check with my theme?

Thanks,
Kevin

Will Unmarking “aggregate inline JS” help alleviate Cache?

I am no developer, just a newly hired marketer for a startup that outsourced building their site.

We needed to minify for SEO sake, so after some research, I activated the AO plugin which they had already added but not activated, which helped immensely.

However, after a few days of editing the site in different areas, I noticed the cache was full. I looked into the possible reasons and noticed the box for “Also aggregate inline JS?” was checked, I read this can make the cache fill fast, and it seems it did.

I don’t want to clear the cache as I saw lots of people say that there are very specific steps and not to do it unless you know what you are doing as it can break the site.

My Questions:
Will unchecking the “Also aggregate inline JS?” fix the full cache issue, and/or since I have more work to do on the website, should I deactivate the plugin until I am done cleaning up the site?

Performance in terms of Speed

Hello @optimizingmatters

I have been using AO for sometime now & am pretty happy with it. Just yesterday, i installed a plugin for Frontend Publishing & I had to disable “Aggregate CSS Files” in AO & things were back to normal.

I regularly check the website speed using various tools & I was wondering if you can guide me with an optimal settings for AO so as to get a decent load time.
For the record, i am using WP Super Cache too & I believe AO works well with WP Super Cache along with GeoDirectory Plugin(At one point, GD recommended AO, not sure the status today though).

Please let me know if you can help me with the ideal settings that could boost up the loadtime for my website.
Awaiting your reply.
Thanks/Manish

What is default time cache for autoptimize? 1 month? How to change it for 1 year? For google 1 month is too less.

disable html optimization dynamically?

Since there is a way to stop autoptimize from caching specific pages I wonder if there is one to stop optimizing of html (for specific pages).
I use pages with dynamic content (user generated) and still need the js/css minification but not the html one.
If there is no way doing that I would like to see that in the future.

Lazyload not working with ShortPixel

When using ShortPixel to create webp images and setting it to rewrite the <img> tag to a <picture> tag will no longer allow the LazyLoading of Autoptimize to work as expected.

I have also confirmed this is a problem when hard coding a <picture>/<source> tags into the WordPress content too, so this isn’t only related to the ShortPixel Plugin – but is the easiest way to replicate.

When loading a page of the website, the jpg version of the image download immediately – then once scrolled to the webp image will download as expected.

I have tested and confirmed this in a fresh install of WordPress with the Twenty Twenty and only the ShortPixel and Autoptimize plugins installed. ShortPixel has the following advanced settings activated:

  • Also create WebP versions of the images, for free.
  • Deliver the WebP versions of the images in the front-end:
  • Global (processes the whole output buffer before sending the HTML to the browser)

Hi,

Firstly, great plugin, has to be one of the most versatile plugin on wordpress.

Autoptimize manages to optimize all js and css on my site except “gdpr cookie compliance” plugin.

Files wp-content/plugins/gdpr-cookie-compliance/dist/styles/lity.css & wp-content/plugins/gdpr-cookie-compliance/dist/scripts/lity.js are enqued separately.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Hi Frank,

I have these strange error messages in my PHP error log file. I have no access activity at those timestamps, except that one admin was doing some stuff in Wordfence around that time (adding blocking rules or monitoring the Live Activity).

As these errors are related to some caching, I have only OPCache and your plugin installed (cache related). Any idea where these errors could come from?

Thanks, Didier.
